So things have been picking up steadily. I had my first foray into District Court yesterday for an initial appearance. Turns out I had the client from hell. I had to spend an hour and half telling this client that due to his two prior state jail felonies, probation was not an option. He didn't want to accept either offer nor did he want to go to trial. Well, those are the only doors we have. Unfortunately he left his ruby slippers at home, so finally after my patience had worn thin, and being accused of working for the State, I told the Judge I had to withdraw.
It's not something I take lightly, my job or the decision to withdraw. I knew it would happen eventually, I was just hoping that it wouldn't happen this soon. But when your client refuses to sign any papers, refuses to choose one of the only options he has available, and is convinced you aren't on his side, there is nothing you can do.
So I learned that sometimes, your best will never be good enough for some clients, and when they refuse to face reality, you have to do things that you may not like but you have no choice to do.
In anycase, Judge signed the order this morning, so it is now snugly filed away among other documents and I am moving on to the next case.
